Lundin proves gas accumulation near Johan Sverdrup in North Sea

Lundin Norway has discovered gas in the Zulu structure, 30 km (18.6 mi) northeast of the Johan Sverdrup field in the central Norwegian North Sea.

STOCKHOLM, SwedenLundin Norway has discovered gas in the Zulu structure, 30 km (18.6 mi) northeast of the Johan Sverdrup field in the central Norwegian North Sea.

The semisubmersibleIsland Innovator drilled well 26/10-1 in 140 m (459 ft) of water on the Patch Bank Ridge. It was drilled on the PL674BS license awarded under Norway’s APA 2014 Round.

Lundin says the well encountered good-quality Utsira Formation sand, with gas in an upper 24-m (79-ft) sand sequence. Pressure measurements suggest a 36-m (118-ft) gas column.

The company plans to analyze fluid data and conduct detailed mapping to assess the potential resource. The well, which was terminated in sediments of presumed Oligocene age in the Hordaland Group, is being P&A’d.
