Neptune Energy ramping up global offshore projects

Aug. 11, 2022
Neptune Energy reported first-half 2022 production of 132.3 kboe/d, substantially higher than first-half 2021, due to project startups and good operational performance, and second-quarter 2022 production was ahead of quarterly guidance.

LONDON Neptune Energy has started drilling operations for a 10th well on the Cygnus gas field in the UK southern North Sea, the company said in its latest results statement.

A second well in the program should come onstream in 2023; both wells will help maintain production and offset natural decline.

The Cygnus complex is due to shut down temporarily this month to coincide with a planned outage at the Shearwater Elgin Area Line pipeline in the central UK North Sea.

As for Neptune’s Seagull tieback to the bp-operated ETAP complex, the J1 development well was perforated in July, with cleanup operations due to be completed shortly. Operations will then begin on the J2 development well.

Recently completed subsea work for the project included umbilical hookup, installation of subsea pipeline spools and leak testing of the production pipeline system. A further subsea campaign is set to get underway during September.

Neptune expects operator TotalEnergies to spud an appraisal well on the Isabella gas-condensate discovery in the UK’s central region next month.

In the Dutch North Sea, Neptune’s K2b-A8 sidetrack should come onstream this month. Maintenance shutdowns are planned at F3 and the NOGAT export pipeline.

Operations continue on the Pollux exploration well.

As for the L10 Carbon Capture and Storage project, the partners have agreed to move forward to the concept selection stage and to FEED-ready, followed by submission of a storage license application in 2023.

The PosHYdon offshore wind/offshore green hydrogen project is also advancing with continued definition work, including modifications required to accommodate the electrolyzer on the Q13 platform.

Offshore Indonesia, operator Eni plans a sidetrack drilling campaign at the Jangkrik and Merakes fields, with a view to increasing production.

Discussions are underway with the Indonesian government on a planned Jangkrik booster compression module and development of the Maha and Merakes East fields, to add further volumes through the Jangkrik FPU from 2024.

CEO Pete Jones said in the company's latest results report, “Neptune delivered a good operational and financial performance in the first half of 2022, underpinned by higher production, prevailing commodity prices and tight cost control. Near-term production growth will be supported by the successful restart of Snøhvit, with a further 47 kboe/d of new production to be added by 2023 through our new projects."
