HERZELIA, Israel — Chevron is drilling a new production well on the Leviathan Field offshore Israel, according to partner NewMed Energy (formerly Delek Drilling).

Leviathan-8 is being drilled in the area of the I/14 Leviathan South lease and should be completed in the next few weeks for connection to the existing subsea production system in first-quarter 2023.

Earlier this month, the same companies and other partners in the shallow-water Yam Tethys project offshore Israel approved a boost to the plug and abandonment budget, which is close to $232 million.

Offshore southern Cyprus, plans are underway with the Cypriot government to update the development/production plan for the Aphrodite gas field, connecting it to existing facilities and/or development plans for nearby assets.

The partnership has decided to contract a drillship to drill the Aphrodite A-3 well in the Block 12 area, which will be retained as a production well.
