Chevron restores gas flow from Leviathan reservoir offshore Israel

The resumption of operations was authorized by the Ministry of Energy despite the ongoing hostilities in the region.
April 3, 2026

Chevron restarted gas production last night from the Leviathan reservoir in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, following a month-long suspension due to the current regional conflict.

Partner NewMed Energy said the Petroleum Commissioner at Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure had asked Chevron to undertake all necessary preparations for resuming operations at the Leviathan platform.

While the partners will consider the potential for receiving compensation from the state for the enforced suspension period, NewMed added, there is no certainty that the government will agree to remuneration.

Ratio Energies is the other co-venturer.

It was about a month ago that Chevron Mediterranean received a directive from Israel’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure to suspend gas production from the Leviathan Field, which is located 130 km offshore Haifa.
