STAVANGER, Norway – Saipem’s semisubmersible Scarabeo 8 has started production drilling for Wintershall Dea Norge on the Nova field in the Norwegian North Sea.

The original campaign started in October 2020, but had to be suspended after one of the xmas trees fell to the seafloor during deployment from the semisub West Mira. The rig’s contract was subsequently terminated in May 2021.

The Scarabeo 8 will drill three production wells and three water injectors through two subsea templates, with the host, Neptune Energy-operated Gjøa platform providing water injection and gas lift.

Gjøa receives power from shore and will also supply electricity to Nova.

Installation of the subsea equipment has finished and modifications to the platform are progressing.

Nova is 120 km (75 mi) northwest of Bergen and 17 km (10.6 mi) southwest of Gjøa.
