PERTH, AustraliaCarnarvon Petroleum has contracted the jackup Valaris JU-107 for drilling the Buffalo-10 well in the Timor Sea.

The rig is currently operating for Jadestone Energy on the Montara field, around 300 km (186 mi) southwest of the Buffalo location, but should be free in eight to 10 weeks to mobilize to start work on the well.

Previously the rig worked for Carnarvon on the Dorado-1 discovery offshore Western Australia in 2018.

According to partner Advance Energy, Buffalo-10 well will test a potentially significant attic oil accumulation that remains after the original Buffalo field development was shut down by BHP.
