Ahead of ADIPEC 2026, NMDC Group has outlined how it is applying artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous technologies across offshore marine and subsea operations, pointing to growing opportunities to improve efficiency, safety and project execution.
In comments provided exclusively to Offshore, Ramy Abdelwahab, Technology HUB & AI solutions director, said NMDC has developed a Marine Spread Management system that uses AI-enabled analytics to centralize vessel data and improve fleet oversight.
According to Abdelwahab, the platform helps track vessel readiness, certification status, utilization, and costs across projects, providing real-time visibility that supports vessel allocation and operational decision-making.
“The platform's vessel allocation and time-tracking capabilities have improved project execution efficiency, allowing construction teams to match vessels to projects precisely while tracking utilization and costs," he added. "In addition, project-specific workspaces locally and internationally have streamlined coordination and improved schedule performance across multiple geographies.”
The company is also advancing its use of autonomous subsea technologies. Dr. Mouad Lambarki, geotechnical and survey director with NMDC Dredging & Marine, said the recently acquired Teledyne Gavia autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is being deployed for high-resolution seabed mapping, route surveys and underwater feature investigations.
Lambarki noted that autonomous systems can reduce personnel exposure in challenging offshore environments while expanding data-gathering capabilities.
"We believe that the greatest value will come from integrating autonomous systems with conventional hydrographic and geophysical survey methods, digital data-processing workflows and AI-assisted interpretation," he concluded. "This combination can support better-informed engineering decisions, more efficient project execution and improved monitoring of subsea assets throughout their lifecycle."
