At ONS this week, Kongsberg has released the Aegir SSA (Subsea Situational Awareness) family of sonars, designed to help operators detect, classify and track activity around critical offshore infrastructure, ports and coastal assets.
The systems support maritime security, safety and navigation applications and can be integrated with uncrewed surface vessels (USVs), buoys, fixed installations and larger maritime platforms.
AI-enabled sonar monitoring for offshore assets
As part of the concept, Kongsberg is offering its AI-based virtual sonar service that is designed to allow operation without continuous human oversight. The AI can be configured according to the mission requirements and trained by the client’s operators.
With ports, harbors and coastal environments, the combination of high volumes of traffic, shallow water, drifting objects and potential unauthorized activity all present risks that may be hidden from conventional monitoring systems.
The Aegir range is designed to facilitate detection, classification and tracking of objects and activities beneath the surface, while also supporting safer navigation.
Kongsberg’s booth at ONS is displaying a live data feed from an Aegir SSA sonar installation operating in the Oslofjord. The system is integrated on a Fugro's SEAWATCH buoy platform connected to the Oslofjord Testbed, providing continuous offshore monitoring, real-time data and subsea sensing.
