LONDON – Genesis Petroleum has been awarded a frontier license (P1639) under the UK’s 25th Seaward licensing round.

The permit comprises nine blocks covering a total area of 1,757 sq km (678 sq mi). The company’s subsidiary Genesis Exploration & production will act as operator.

Genesis’ other provisional 25th round award, relating to block 9/9d, has been incorporated into the adjacent 9/9e (P1410) license that the company already held with Lundin Oil.

In the Norwegian sector, terms have been agreed for blocks 6201/11 and 12 adjoining the company’s new frontier license. Genesis and its partners have agreed to drill a well on the acreage, which includes an oil and gas discovery.
