The POS-GRIP method of design is an alternative way of wellhead engineering for the oil and gas industry. POS-GRIP technology provides for simplifications to the internal components of wellheads and can be used for numerous applications. In each case, POS-GRIP provides advantages in terms of convenience, timesaving, safety, and reliability, the company says.

The tubing hanger used on the Hejre-2 well was made up of a single component, providing multiple metal-to-metal seals with a combined area of 20 times that of conventional designs. For operational reasons, the hanger with integral seals was set on two occasions and successfully tested to 15,000 psi (1,034 bar), proving the reliability of the technology under field conditions. No resilient seals were present in the system.

Ben van Bilderbeek, CEO of Plexus, says it is Plexus’ aim to promote the unique advantages of the POSGRIP method of wellhead engineering into a new standard for the industry. The company believes this proprietary technology can be successfully and economically applied from low-pressure oil wells to ultra-high pressure and temperature (30,000 psi at 650° F) gas projects, van Bilderbeek says.
