LONDON – The heavy duty jackup Ensco 121 has spudded the HP/HT Rowallan exploration well 22/19c-G in the UK central North Sea.
Eni UK is the operator, in partnership withSerica Energy, JX Nippon Exploration and Production (U.K.) Ltd., and Mitsui.
The well is targeting gas condensate in Rowallan, a structural fault and dip-closed trap in the east of block 22/19c, and is designed to penetrate sandstones at both Mid-Jurassic and Triassic levels.
According to Serica, these intervals are optimally situated for hydrocarbon charge from the direction of the nearby producing Monan and Mungo oil fields, part of the BP-operated ETAP complex.
If the well proves commercial hydrocarbons, there is potential upside in the nearby and geologically similar Dundonald and Sundrum prospects.
In addition, Rowallan may extend into Serica’s recently awarded UK 30th Round blocks directly to the south.
