LONDONSerica Energy plans to drill at least two wells in the UK central North Sea this year.

In November, the company agreed to acquire BP’s operated interests in the producing Bruce, Keith, and Rhum gas/condensate fields and associated infrastructure. It expects the transaction to be completed this summer.

Production from the fields was interrupted in December following the brief closure of theForties Pipeline system, but since operations re-started, rates have routinely been above 20,000 boe/d net to BP.

BP has awarded a contract for a rig to perform re-entry and re-completion of the previously drilled (but not yet producing) Rhum #3 well, between 2Q and 3Q 2018.

The well is already connected to the necessary infrastructure and production should start before year-end.

Serica plans to open a new operational headquarters in Aberdeen to accommodate staff from the fields transferring from BP and others it aims to recruit to support the project.

A site survey for the high-pressure/high-temperature Rowallan prospect was completed in December, and tenders are out for a rig to drill an exploration well during the second half of this year. Long-lead items for the drilling have already been ordered.

Serica is fully carried with a 15% interest in the well.
