LONDONSerica Energy expects drilling on the Rowallan prospect in the UK central North Sea to start in December.

Rowallan, in block 22/19c, 20 km (12.4 mi) west of the Serica-operatedColumbus field, is an HP/HT prospect with condensate targets in the Triassic Skagerrak and Mid-Jurassic Pentland formations.

Block operator Eni UK has contracted the jackupEnsco 121 to drill the well, with Serica fully carried on all associated costs.

Serica also expected formal award to come through of a license covering three blocks south of Rowallan, provisionally awarded this May under the UK’s 30th Offshore Licensing Round.

They were offered on condition of making a ‘drill or drop’ decision to enter the next phase.

Another provisional award was for the Columbus West license covering block 23/21b, where Serica Energy is partner to operator Summit Exploration and Production. It is immediately west of the Columbus field.

The proposed work program includes further seismic reprocessing and a ‘drill or drop’ decision to enter the next phase.
