DARLINGTON, UK – Subsea Innovation has gained DNV GL type approval for its SIClamp structural pipeline repair clamp technology.

The technique provides a temporary or permanent structural repair clamp for carbon steel pipelines, and is designed for immediate deployment for emergency repairs should a subsea oil or gas pipeline suffer damage or integrity issues due to corrosion or a defect.

The SIClamps are in sizes between 8-in. and 44-in. and for use in temperature ranges from -4 to +80°C (+25 to +176°F).

Subsea Innovation has delivered nine such systems in the last two years five of which are fully ROV-automating, using the company’s hydraulic reversible bolt tensioners, which allows for installation and operation in water depths down to 1,350 m (4,429 ft).

Work is under way to developing systems for deeper water.

Users include Subsea 7, RasGas, and Chevron.
