EAST KILBRIDE, UK – TUV SUD NEL has commissioned an upgrade of its primary liquid densitometer to provide enhanced flow meter calibration accuracy.

The upgrade will provide the calibration traceability to primary standards for liquid density measurement at elevated temperatures and the pressure required for flow meter calibrations at these conditions.

Industry has been seeking enhanced calibration accuracy at elevated pressures, and density calibration services that support next-generation industrial flow measurement devices.

The investment will support TUV SUD NEL’s new £16-million ($21.05-million)advanced multiphase facility, a high-pressure multiphase flow test complex which will provide the world’s largest testing range, the center claimed.

Dr. Norman Glen, principal consultant, said: “As flow meters are the cash registers of the oil and gas industry, density determination and its variation with temperature and pressure is a fundamental part of flow rate measurement, and essential to commercial success.

“Our investment is therefore vitally important to both operators and industry regulators, which want to be assured of accurate financial reporting, fair trade, and taxation.”
