SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Eni has another oil discovery in block 15/06 offshore Angola.
The Kalimba-1 NFW well, drilled by the drillshipWest Gemini in 458 m (1,502 ft) water depth, 50 km (31 mi) southeast of the company’s East Hub FPSO Armada Olombendo, encountered 23 m (75 ft) net oil pay (33° API) in Upper Miocene sandstones with good petrophysical properties.
Eni estimates the potential in-place resources in the range of 230-300 MMbbl of light oil, with the well data indicating a production capacity above 5,000 b/d.
The find opens new opportunities for oil exploration in the southern part of block 15/06, which was thought to be mainly gas prone.
The company and partners Sonangol P&P and SSI Fifteen will work to appraise the updip of the discovery and start studies for a fasttrack development.
In block 15/06 theWest Hub and East Hub projects are currently producing around 150,000 b/d.
Later this year, Eni expects to begin Upper Miocene production in the East Hub, and the subsea boosting system for the Mpungi field, while the Vandumbu field, connected to the West Hub, will start production at the end of the year, ahead of plan.
These will add a further 30,000 b/d to overall production from the block.
