OSLO, NorwayAker BP has authorization for two exploratory wells in the Norwegian Barents Sea.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has sanctioned use of the semisubmersibleDeepsea Stavanger to drill wildcat well 7221/12-1 in production license 659, 20 km (12.4 mi) northwest of the Langlitinden discovery well 7222/11-2.

This license was awarded under Norway’s APA 2011 round.

In the same area, Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority has approved the drilling of appraisal well 7222/10-1, 65 km (40 mi) north-northeast of the Snøhvit field, on the Svanefjell discovery (well 72221/12-1).

Drilling here should start next month – water depth at the location is 357 m (1,171 ft).
