Petrobras begins Piranema production

Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has started oil production from Piranema field, 25 km (15.5 mi) off Sergipe.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil –Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has started oil production from Piranema field, 25 km (15.5 mi) off Sergipe. Piranema produces the lightest oil in deepwater Brazil, at 44º API.

Initial production is expected to be 10,000 b/d of oil, says Petrobras, and may reach 30,000 b/d in 2008.

Piranema produces through and FPSO chartered from Sevan Production AS for an 11-year period. Water depth is 1,090 m (3,576 ft). For the first phase of production, the FPSO will be connected to six wells. For the second phase, it will move to the southern part of the field in 1,560 m (5.118 ft) of water and connect to three other wells.
