ABERDEEN, UKDolphin Drilling has confirmed a $154 million drilling contract from Oil India for the Blackford Dolphin semisubmersible, following the initial letter of award issued last October.

The rig will support Oil India's exploration and development activities with operations set to start in the second half of 2024. The contract includes provision of associated services.

Blackford Dolphin will drill three firm wells during the 14 months, with an option to extend the term by a further seven months.

Moreover, Dolphin has decided to sell its Bideford Dolphin semisubmersible drilling rig for scrap.

The company said its focus going forward was on optimizing its remaining fleet and enhancing operational efficiency. It recently acquired two semisubs from Transocean.
