NEW DELHI, India — ONGC has secured seven blocks under India’s OALP bid round-VIII, the company revealed in its latest results statement.

These cover a total area of 30,341.72 sq km and include shallow-water, deepwater and ultradeepwater concessions.

In its review of operations, the company highlighted development of the SPRAS acidizing formulation for stimulation of its Western Offshore carbonate reservoirs.

This is designed to address the challenges of using hydrochloric acid (HCl) in matrix stimulation in carbonate reservoir. The formulation slows down the rate of reaction by using retarding surfactants and is said to eliminate the need to use diesel.

ONGC also started cargo dispatch to Mumbai Offshore from Karanja Port to support the increasing scale of operations in the Western Offshore region.

Recent production was impacted by a shutdown of the Panna-Mukta offshore platforms to allow commissioning of a new crude oil export pipeline. Last June, Cyclone Biparjoy also disrupted offshore production.

Further declines from mature fields should be offset over the next few months by production from projects in various stages of development. Last month crude oil production started from the company’s deepwater KG-DWN-98/2 Block off the Bay of Bengal, eastern India.
