Electric-powered crew transfer vessel completes demonstration at offshore wind farm
A project led by Belfast-based Artemis Technologies has completed a technical demonstration of a dual-propulsion, 100% electric Artemis EF-12 crew transfer vessel (CTV) at the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm off Scotland’s east coast.
The development was a partnership with Vattenfall, Tidal Transit, Lloyd’s Register and the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult. The aim of the project was to test a 100% electrically powered Artemis EF-12 CTV at an operational offshore wind farm.
Artemis CEO Dr. Iain Percy said trials included operations in varied sea and weather conditions and bollard push maneuvers to confirm the vessel’s stability and performance.
Tidal Transit contributed CTV operations for the demonstration.
The 11-turbine, 96.8-MW Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm, also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre, is 2.5 km from Aberdeen in the central UK North Sea, where Vattenfall and ORE Catapult operate a testing program. It has been in service since July 2018.
The 12-passenger Artemis eFoiler CTV project has funding via the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) program at the Department for Transport.
