Lamprell has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Taiwanese contractor Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) to construct a new NG-9000X wind turbine installation and maintenance vessel.
The GustoMSC-designed NG-9000X vessel will support offshore wind developments in the Asia-Pacific region and will be able to handle latest-generation wind turbines.
DFO and Lamprell see potential for a collaboration with prospective clients, including a combined engineering and procurement approach, to develop a suitable solution.
The vessel, which will be built in compliance with Taiwanese shipping law, will include a heavy-lift crane, DP-2 positioning, legs with spud cans for problematic seabed condition and living quarters.
It will be capable of transporting and installing two 15-MW-class turbines per voyage.
