Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) has commissioned VARD to design and build a third new commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV), following two earlier vessels ordered last May.

The VARD 4 39 design developed specifically for DFO is said to provide optimized support operations at wind farms during the service and installation phases.

The latest vessel, 102.7 m long with a beam of 19.5 m, will feature a fully electric crane, a walk-to-work system, Sea Q integrated bridge, power package and automation system, and a hybrid propulsion system with 1,240 kWh of energy storage.

It will accommodate up to 120 personnel, with the hull shape said to assist fuel-efficient operations. The vessel’s large external deck is designed for future integration of a modular power and fiber-optic cablelay and repair spread.

Construction and delivery will take place at VARD’s Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam, and it should be completed early in 2028. Following delivery, the vessel will start a 15-year service contract for one of Dong Fang’s clients offshore Taiwan.
