SINGAPORE -- Saipem has awarded Yantai Raffles Shipyard Ltd. a contract to design and construct a DP3 class pipelay vessel.
The vessel is 290 m (951 ft) long with a breadth of 39 m (128 ft) and will be built under the American Bureau of Shipping classification for DP pipelay and subsea construction. It is being designed to support deepwater developments worldwide, including the North Sea, Baltic Sea, Barents Sea, South Atlantic, West African Coast, Gulf of Mexico, and Pacific Ocean north of Australia.
With a main deck height of 24 m (79 ft) and an operating draught ranging from 7 to 10 m (23-33 ft), the vessel will have an S-lay pipe system with the future option of installing a J-Lay system.
The new vessel also will be equipped with a 600-metric-ton (661-ton) mast crane and two 55-metric-ton (61-ton) pipe handling gantry cranes. It will have accommodation for 538.
Yantai Raffles expects to deliver the pipelay vessel in early 2010.
