HAMILTON, Bermuda – Seadrill has taken delivery of the deepwater drillship West Gemini from Samsung in South Korea. The vessel will conduct simulated drilling operations in Korean waters, then head for Angola under a two-year contract with Total.

"We are pleased to report the third consecutive on-time, on-budget delivery of a deepwater drillship to Seadrill from the Samsung Shipyard and look forward to commence what will be our first deepwater drilling operation offshore Angola for Total,” says Alf C. Thorkildsen, CEO, Seadrill Management AS.

“The completion of our 10th newbuilding project within two years confirms Seadrill's ability to manage complex projects within time and cost and is a great achievement for our organization and the people involved.”
