HAMILTON, Bermuda – Sonadrill, a joint venture between Seadrill and an affiliate of Sonangol E.P., has secured a long-term contract for the ultra-deepwater drillship West Gemini offshore Angola.
This covers 10 wells over an 18-month period, with options to drill up to eight additional wells. The program is due to start in Q4 this year, in direct continuation of the vessel’s existing contract.
Seadrill estimates the value of the firm portion at around $161 million (including mobilization and other services), with potential add-ons from a performance bonus.
West Gemini is the third drillship to be bareboat chartered into Sonadrill, along with the Sonangol Quenguela and Sonangol Libongos. Seadrill will manage and operate all the rigs on behalf of Sonadrill.
