Power engineering group Wärtsilä has signed a long-term service agreement with Eidesvik Offshore to provide maintenance services for the seismic vessel Oceanic Vega.

STAVANGER, Norway -- Power engineering group Wärtsilä has signed a long-term service agreement with Eidesvik Offshore to provide maintenance services for the seismic vessel Oceanic Vega.
The five-year agreement, with options for a further five years, aims to reduce maintenance costs for the owner while providing uninterrupted availability and high levels of reliability. The agreement could also be extended to a sister vessel, due to be delivered in July 2011.
Wärtsilä's program includes planning and scheduling of engine maintenance based on online monitoring of the mechanical condition, performance, system efficiency data, and other indicators from each engine. The company collects and monitors these data each day, the aim being to identify the sources of faults before failure occurs.
The Oceanic Vega, built at the Ulstein Verft yard in Norway, was delivered on July 1. The ship's power system comprises six Wärtsilä 26 engines, gears, adjustable thrusters, and controls.
Eidesvik was the first ship owner to use Wärtsilä's DF dual-fuel engines on its supply vessels. Both companies also participate in the Fellowship-project, which aims to develop and demonstrate hybrid fuel cell power packs, for use especially in offshore and marine applications.
