HELSINKI, Finland -- Nam Cheong Dockyard in Miri, Malaysia, is to build a Wärtsilä Ship Design (WSD) multi-purpose platform supply vessel (MPSV).
The WSD 800 MPSV design features four generating sets producing over 6 MW of electric power. This is distributed, via Wärtsilä's patented Low Loss concept for diesel electric propulsion, to two Wärtsilä main azimuth steerable thrusters aft, and two tunnel thrusters forward.
The WSD 800 MPSV is 81.6 m (268 ft) long, with a beam of 18.4 m (60.4 ft), and a summer draught of 6.8 m (22.3 ft). It includes an ROV mezzanine deck, a crane, and an 800-sq m (8,611-sq ft) deck area.
Malaysian offshore support specialist Bumi Armada will own and operate the vessel, which is due to be launched and commissioned by fall 2012.
