MOSCOW – Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will class a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) to be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in South Korea.
According to Georgy Bedrik, head of the RS planning and marketing division, time frames for construction of an FSRU and commissioning works are generally much shorter than for construction of an onshore LNG terminal.
The company will perform survey duties in compliance with the RS rules, and other applicable national and international requirements.
The vessel will incorporate anti-icing protection to ensure its continuous operation at low temperatures (down to -30°C/-22°F). The Arc4 ice class will allow it to navigate in the average one-year ice up to 0.9 m (2.9 ft) thick in summer and fall.
HHI is due to deliver the vessel to OOO Gazprom Flot by end-2017.
