STAVANGER, Norway – bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has chartered Prosafe’s accommodation support rig Safe Concordia to provide gangway-connected operations at the Cassia C platform offshore Trinidad.

The contract will run for around 160 days, in direct continuation of the rig’s current program at the facility, extending its stay through Aug. 31, 2022. In addition, bpTT has up to four weeks of options.

Value of the firm contract is $19.4 million. Jesper Kragh Andresen, CEO of Prosafe, said: “The flexibility the Safe Concordia offers through high bed capacity, large deck space and dynamic positioning means that bp can continue to plan and execute operations in an efficient manner.”

In its latest results statement, Prosafe commented that the present focus of the offshore oil and gas industry on electrification and other emission-reducing measures, and the emerging market for carbon capture and storage, should both be positive for offshore accommodation specialists in the longer term.

At the same time, numbers of FPSOs and other floating offshore installations are rising relative to fixed installations, and floating oil production requires modern DP-3 semisubmersible rigs that can “follow target,” Prosafe claimed.

Due to the complexity of the global energy system and the global dependence on energy for growth and prosperity, the transition to a renewable setting will likely take time. Prosafe therefore assumes there will be high activity in the oil and gas industry for the foreseeable future while investments in energy management and carbon intensity/emissions abatement continue in parallel.
