SANDNES, Norway – Vår Energi has acquired two support vessels to service its activities in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

The Olympic Energy runs on LNG, with a back-up battery pack providing up to 460 kWh if energy consumption reaches peak levels.

In addition, the vessel can connect at a quayside to shore power to charge the battery.

The Troms Sirius currently uses traditional fuel but will be upgraded to allow for a shore power connection during quay stays.

Both vessels will operate between the Balder field and Dusavik quay, north of Stavanger. The Troms Sirius will start operations later this month, followed by the Olympic Energy in February 2021.

Another supply vessel, the Stril Barents, currently operates for Vår Energi between the Polarbase in Hammerfest, northern Norway, and the Goliat oilfield in the Barents Sea.
