STAVANGER, NorwayMODEC has awarded Aibel a letter of intent in connection with a newbuild FPSO for Equinor’s Bacalhau field development in the Santos basin offshore Brazil.

This covers a FEED phase for management and basic engineering services, with an option for an EPC contract including detail engineering, bulk procurement and construction of around 20,000 tons of topsides modules for the FPSO.

According to Aibel, it will be the largest FPSO ever delivered to Brazil with a production capacity of up to 220,000 b/d of crude.

At Aibel’s Singapore office, the company and MODEC will establish an integrated project team, with Aibel’s engineering office in Thailand assisting detail engineering.

Construction of the 20,000-ton modules will take place at the company’s recently upgraded yard facilities in Laem Chabang, Thailand.

In support of the contract, the company will also expand its engineering organization in Singapore.

The scheduled start of prefabrication for the topsides modules is 2Q 2021. On completion, they will be transported to Singapore for integration on board the hull, to be constructed in China.
