ABERDEEN, UK -- Shell UK has awarded GE Oil & Gas’ drilling and production arm an order for its VetcoGray SVXT S-series subsea tree.

The order was awarded under GE’s existing regional frame agreement, alongside earlier front-end engineering design (FEED) work undertaken on behalf of Shell UK and Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM). GE plans to deliver the SVXT in the fourth quarter. It is scheduled to be installed in 1Q 2011.

The SVXT merges horizontal and vertical tree technology and is intended for harsh environment, shallow water fields, the company says.

Additional SVXT design features include smaller tree and fishing-friendly wellhead protection structures, as well a barrier approach that removes the need for a separate tree cap.
