HOUSTON — MacDermid Offshore Solutions, a provider of control fluids for the offshore oil and gas industry, has released its new Oceanic EL 08 organic and biodegradable lubricant, according to a recent company news release. The lubricant is designed to be a safe and efficient alternative to flammable or hazardous solvents and corrosion inhibitors used in umbilicals.
Low viscosity and minimal hazards make it possible to pump Oceanic EL 08 into long umbilicals both on land and offshore efficiently.
Oceanic EL 08 can be safely used to fill, test and store umbilicals, and it requires minimal effort and saves the expense of flushing or displacing aqueous alternatives in certain cases.
The company said users can avoid environmental concerns and costs associated with collection and disposal of water-based fluids that cannot be put into production streams or chemical injection lines.
Oceanic EL 08 has been successfully utilized by a major equipment operator in a subsea field off the coast of South America.
The lubricant is safe to work with and helps users avoid the trouble of recovering fluid after the installation process because it can be vented into production. It is also compatible with oil-soluble production chemicals for the safe and efficient venting to production. Users do not need to change the oil-soluble fluid before going into production, which eliminates the time, physical challenge and potential flow assurance concerns associated with changing fluids in chemical injection lines.
