ABERDEEN, UKMaritime Developments (MDL) has completed two SURF installations for TechnipFMC projects in the North Sea.

In September, the company mobilized a MDL 4-track tensioner, Generation 2 reel drive system and 3.5-m (11.5-ft) overboarding chute onboard the dive support vessel Deep Arctic for a 70.4-mm umbilical installation in the UK sector.

The vessel then entered Norwegian waters to lay a 5-in. flexible jumper. MDL’s equipment was able to handle reel sizes varying from 8.6-9.2 m (28.2-30.2 ft) using the same deck layout.

And the use of 2- and 4-track modes on the tensioner, as well as the tensioner’s low-squeeze mode, meant there were no issues connected with the difference in product OD (from 70 mm to 177.10 mm), the company added.
