ASKER, Norway 4Subsea has received a supply agreement to monitor steel catenary risers on the FPSO for Equinor’s Bacalhau field development offshore Brazil.

The company will use the 4insight Subsea Asset Integrity service. This combines advanced strain and motion sensors to measure vessel motions and riser load with algorithms to calculate pressure and hoop stress to monitor the integrity and risks to the steel catenary risers.

The results are presented as easy-to-interpret insights and dashboards. Data will be fed into Equinor’s data platform for further analysis.

Peter Jenkins, CEO of 4Subsea, said: “These services have proven to reduce operational risk and costs during complex operations and are great demonstrations of the digital transformation of offshore operations to increase safety.”

MODEC is constructing the FPSO that will be deployed in the presalt Santos basin, 185 km (115 mi) offshore São Paulo, in water depths of 2,050 m (6,725 ft).

The FPSO is designed to produce up to 220,000 b/d of crude and to inject up to 530 MMcf/d of associated gas and up to 200,000 b/d of seawater.

First oil is expected in 2024.
