HALIFAX, Canada Ashtead Technology subsidiary Welaptega has completed inspections of two FPSOs offshore Nigeria.

Welaptega, which has formed a partnership with engineering/training organization STAT-Marine Nigeria, undertook inspections on Eni’s Abo FPSO, on the western edge of the Niger Delta, at water depths of 550-1,100 m (1,804-3,609 ft).

It also checked moorings on ExxonMobil’s Usan FPSO in the Gulf of Guinea at depths of up to 850 m (2,789 ft).

The company claims its chain measurement system technology allows inspections to be completed up to 40% faster than other methods.

It employs optical systems to take three separate measurements, with chain diameter measurements then assessed from video footage instead of having to bring in equipment to physically grip the chain.
