IJMUIDEN, the NetherlandsAirborne Oil & Gas has won a contract to supply 10 km (6.2 mi) of its thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) for a flowline offshore West Africa.

The client is an unnamed major oil company which last year ordered a 4-km (2.5-mi) TCP product. The latest order will support a brownfield tieback development in the same region.

According to Airborne, TCP is a non-metallic, composite pipe which offers extended service life due to its high levels of corrosion and fatigue resistance.

The company claims that experience with its flowlines to date shows savings of around 40% on installation costs compared to conventional alternatives.

TCP is also said to have delivered benefits to pipeline replacement projects, particularly water injection lines that are often prone to corrosion. In addition, the product is said to provide a lower CO2 (carbon-dioxide) footprint for the pipelines.
