Prysmian to supply steel tube umbilicals for Mero 1 project offshore Brazil

The Petrobras-led Libra consortium has contracted Prysmian Group to supply steel tube umbilicals for the first-phase Mero oil field development in the presalt Santos basin offshore Brazil.

MILAN, Italy – The Petrobras-led Libra consortium has contracted Prysmian Group to supply steel tube umbilicals (STUs) for the first-phase Mero oil field development in the presalt Santos basin offshore Brazil.

Mero 1, in water depths of around 2,000 m (6,562 ft), is under development through up to 17 wells and an FPSO, 180 km (112 mi) offshore Rio de Janeiro. First oil is slated for 2021.

According to Prysmian, this will be the first project in the region to employ STUs.

The contract scope includes close to 60 km (37 mi) of 9/12 functions ½-in. diameter 10,000-psi (689-bar) super duplex steel tubes that will be manufactured at Vila Velha.

At the same center, Prysmian has engineered, manufactured, and tested a drilling pipe riser system for workover operations comprising three types of umbilicals: Open Sea, TH Mode, and Annular.
