STAVANGER, Norway — Equinor has discovered gas in the Obelix Upflank prospect in 1,350 m of water in the Norwegian Sea.
The Deepsea Stavanger semisubmersible drilled wells 6605/1-2 S&A in license PL1128, 23 km south of the Irpa gas discovery. Late last year Equinor submitted plans for a three-well, 80-km subsea tieback of Irpa to the Aasta Hansteen spar platform.
Wintershall Dea and Petoro are the other partners in the latest find, which Equinor says is commercial, although with a wide potential reserves range (2 Bcm to 11 Bcm of recoverable gas, or 12.6 MMboe to 69.2 MMboe).
These were the first wells drilled on the license, awarded under Norway’s APA 2020 round. The partners will consider a tieback to Irpa.
