Transocean lands six-well fixture for deepwater drillship offshore Australia

The Deepwater Skyros drillship will begin the initial 320-day campaign in 2027.

Transocean has secured a six-well contract for its Deepwater Skyros drillship offshore Australia.

The estimated 320-day campaign, awarded by an unnamed operator, is due to start early in 2027.

The $130 million contract excludes compensation for mob/demobilization, but it includes priced options that could keep the vessel working in Australian waters through early 2030.

Late last month, Woodside and Transocean teams reported that they have been using the Vessel Operability Planning Service (VOPS) during operations offshore Australia and in the US Gulf of Mexico. This software has been used to support operations on five offshore drilling rigs, performing more than 20 exploration and decommissioning campaigns in recent years.

In other recent news, the Transocean Equinox semisubmersible rig was heading toward the Essington exploration well location, 55 km offshore Port Campbell, Victoria, in October. A consortium led by ConocoPhillips hired the rig to drill the well in 100 m water depth, with the aim of proving a new source of gas for Australia’s east coast market.
