Dubai-based Shelf Drilling has negotiated a one-year contract extension for the Shelf Drilling Tenacious jackup rig offshore West Africa.

This will now run through February 2027, the company said in an Aug. 22 press release. Shelf Drilling added that the client has an option to extend the hire by a further year thereafter.

The firm period extension is valued at about $50 million.

Earlier this month, Shelf Drilling secured a series of global offshore drilling contracts, including a three-month deal in Vietnam, a one-year contract in the Netherlands, and an extension in Egypt.

Relatedly, a recent Westwood Global Energy Group report highlighted the upcoming surge in offshore drilling activities worldwide, focusing on high-impact wells in deepwater basins, including record-breaking prospects like Bandit in the US Gulf of Mexico and exploration in Suriname, West Africa and the Mediterranean.
