ULSTEINVIK, Norway – The hull of the cable laying vessel Nexans Aurora has arrived at Ulstein Verft, after being built at the Crist shipyard in Poland.
The hull will be towed into the dock hall before activities such as outfitting, electrical work, insulation and piping start.
Ulstein Verft will also install the main components such as the main generator set, the power package, deck machinery, winches, and topsides equipment.
Designed by Skipsteknisk, the Nexans Aurora measures 149.9 m (491.8 ft) in length and 31 m (102 ft) in the beam.
The DP-3 vessel will be outfitted for power cable laying, including bundle laying, jointing and repair, cable system protection and trenching.
The vessel will be equipped with a large capacity cable handling spread including a 10,000-ton split turntable with dual product lay lines with capacities and features to handle the full Nexans submarine systems product line.
It will also contain a dedicated enclosed cable splicing area offering a controlled environment for performance of all product splicing and termination work.
The Nexans Aurora is expected to be delivered next year.
