MILAN, Italy  Saipem has completed its installation scope for the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) wind farm 15 km offshore eastern Scotland in the North Sea.

Once in service, the development will generate about 450 MW of electricity for delivery through the UK’s National Grid.

In 2019, EDF Renewables UK and ESB awarded Saipem the EPCI contract for the project’s 54 steel foundation jackets for the offshore wind turbine generators, two steel foundation jackets for the offshore substations, and transport and installation of the associated topsides.

The company designed the jackets at its engineering centers in the UK and Italy and constructed the structures at its yards in Karimun, Indonesia and Arbatax, Sardinia. The Saipem 3000 vessel completed installation of the foundation piles in late summer 2023, while the Saipem 7000 undertook drilling and jacket installations.

NnG offshore wind project director Matthias Haag said the focus now was on completing installation of the turbines, with first power set to be generated shortly and the entire project completed early next year.
