RIDING MILL, UK – Osbit has delivered a monopile upending hinge for installation on Boskalis’ Bokalift 2 crane vessel to support its US East Coast offshore wind operations.
Initially Boskalis is using the hinge on a project that involves installing a large number of monopile foundations. It works in tandem with the vessel’s crane to ensure the foundations are manipulated in a safe and controlled manner prior to hammering into the seabed.
The hinge is designed to upend offshore wind monopile foundations from their horizontal, stowed position until they are vertical. Throughout the process, the system is said to securely restrain the pile against environmental loading as it rotates through the water column.
Osbit’s technology can accommodate monopiles with a wide range of diameters, with the hinge weighing 1,500 metric tons when fully assembled.
