SOFEC gets AiP for offshore ammonia transfer development

HOUSTON — DNV as awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) for SOFEC ’s ammonia transfer system for use with two mooring technologies.

Both the CALM Buoy and tower mooring solutions are proven SOFEC product lines.

According to the company, refrigerated liquids such as ammonia and other e-fuels are gaining traction as potentially among the most economically sustainable low-emission fuels.

While the industry advances toward blue and green ammonia production and storage, the new development is designed to support the associated challenges of transporting liquid ammonia from an onshore terminal to a remote offshore tanker and vice versa.
