Vestas turbines chosen for Empire Wind

Empire Offshore Wind has selected Vestas as the preferred supplier of wind turbine generators for the two Empire Wind projects offshore New York.

STAVANGER, Norway – Empire Offshore Wind LLC, a joint venture between Equinor and bp, has selected Vestas as the preferred supplier of wind turbine generators for the two Empire Wind projects offshore New York.

According to Equinor, this is one of the largest preferred supplier agreements to be announced in the US.

Vestas is expected to provide 138 V236-15 MW wind turbine generators for Empire Wind 1 and 2, located 15-30 mi (24-48 km) off the coast of Long Island.

The tower sections for Empire Wind 1 and 2 are planned to be sourced from the Marmen/Welcon plant, which is being developed in Port of Albany. For staging of turbine components, Vestas is expected to use the upgraded port at South Brooklyn Marine Terminal.

The turbine supply and service and warranty contract awards are conditional upon final agreement on the contract conditions and signing of the Empire Wind II purchase and sales agreement between Empire Offshore Wind LLC and NYSERDA.
