FREDERICIA, Denmark Ørsted has signed strategic volume contracts with Bladt Industries and Steelwind Nordenham to supply monopile foundations for its Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 projects offshore Germany.

The two suppliers will manufacture 107 monopiles, including the foundation for the offshore substation for 242-MW Gode Wind 3 project. Steelwind Nordenham will supply 66 monopiles, and Bladt Industries will provide 41 monopiles.

In addition, Ørsted has secured call-off rights with the companies for further volume for other projects, if needed.

Subject to Ørsted’s final investment decisions, the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 (900 MW) are expected to become fully operational by 2024 and 2025, respectively. Both projects will be powered by Siemens Gamesa’s 11-MW offshore wind turbines.

The monopiles are expected to be up to 100 m (328 ft) long, have a diameter of almost 10 m (33 ft), and weigh 1,200 metric tons or more.
