German, Spanish firms to fabricate Baltic Eagle foundations

Iberdrola has contracted EEW SPC and Windar to supply the foundations for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.

BILBAO, Spain – Iberdrola has contracted EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH (EEW SPC) and Windar to supply the foundations for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.

EEW SPC will manufacture 50 monopiles at its factory in Rostock, Germany. Grouped into deep and shallow clusters, the monopiles will be between 9 m and 8.75 m (30 ft and 29 ft) in diameter and range in length from 75 to 90 m (246 to 295 ft). The heaviest monopile is expected to be 1,402 metric tons (1,545 tons).

The company will process about 64,600 metric tons of steel for this order, starting in January 2022 and running through to January 2023. Load out is expected to begin in April 2023, and the installation campaign is scheduled to last about six weeks.

Windar will construct the 50 transition pieces at its shipyard in Avilés, Spain. Fabrication works are expected to begin in October 2021 and run through to December 2022. Load out is planned for the beginning of 2023.

Located 30 km (19 mi) to the northeast of Rügen island, the 476-MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2024.
