OSLO, Norway – Vestas has contracted Fred. Olsen Windcarrier (FOWIC) to transport and install 50 V174-9.5MW turbines at the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.

The installation works are expected to start in 2024.

The jackup installation vessel Blue Tern will execute the contract. According to FOWIC, the vessel was nominated for the project due to her ability to operate in deepwater. The Baltic Sea represents challenging soil conditions which requires significant available leg lengths and jacking experience, the company said.

Baltic Eagle will be Iberdrola’s second largest offshore wind farm in Germany. The 476-MW wind farm is expected to supply renewable energy to 475,000 households. The wind farm will be 30 km (19 mi) from the German island of Rügen.
